1. Planning, designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of local, regional, national and international programmes and projects, inter-alia, devoted to

(i) sustainable agriculture and rural development,
(ii) conservation of fragile ecosystems and scientific management of land and water, mountains, mangroves, forests, wildlife and bio-diversity resources,
(iii) combating drought and desertification, watershed management, water harvesting, and irrigation systems,
(iv) food security and safety, horticulture and agro-industries,
(v) gender empowerment, child and mother education and nutrition,
(vi) human health and basic education,
(vii) sanitation and safe drinking water,
(ix) small and medium enterprises,
(x) urban and semi-urban habitat,
(xi) child welfare and street children,
(xii) eco-tourism, carbon sequestration, and renewable energy resources,
(xiii) maintenance and development of infrastructure, including surface and water transport, and power generation, distribution and transmission systems,
(xiv) information and communication technology facilities, and
(xv) local community development, good governance and capacity building;

 

2. Cooperate with other organizations and agencies in disaster preparedness and mitigation, and in relief and rehabilitation operations;

3. Initiate and support scientific, social and cultural activities in support of needy communities, assist in organizing vocational, engineering and technical training and education programmes, and promote self-employment and entrepreneurship schemes in rural and semi-urban areas;

4. Promote programmes for

(i) gender equity, adult education and the rights of the child,
(ii) prevention and control of human and drug trafficking and de-addiction deployment,
(iii) increased awareness of the needs and potentials of disabled and mentally distressed people,
(iv) road safety and first aid,
(v) reduced health hazards and vulnerability to malnutrition, HIV/AIDS, diabetes and heart diseases, and
(vi) rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced people and migrant workers and families;

5. Undertake and organize advisory assistance, studies and awareness-raising workshops, seminars and brain storming sessions on social, cultural, environmental, and economic development issues, particularly with special reference to holistic approach to environmental management, development co-operation and poverty eradication;

 

6. Establish a centre of excellence without walls involving research and development, pilot testing, training and demonstration devoted to developing and disseminating appropriate technologies for cost-effective and holistic urban renewal with acceptable standards of environmental quality and need-based infrastructure, especially with reference to engineering and other skills for self-reliant, low-cost and sustainable systems of energy, information and communication technology, safe water supply, roads and housing, and local product processing and marketing;

7. Organize other activities which serve and promote holistic sustainable development policies and plans of the country, region, and communities concerned and are in accordance with the aims and objectives of the Organization;

8. Research, development and transfer of technology for wasteland reclamation, afforestation and improved agricultural yield;

9. Collaborate and help to promote globally and locally important heritage systems, traditional knowledge and its mainstreaming, including democracy and support for local income generating avenues, such as of site-specific agricultural production, aromatic and medicinal plants, bamboo and rattan products, and handicrafts.

We are currently engaged in the execution, coordination, monitoring, evaluation and review of policies, programmes and projects devoted to:

• Agriculture and rural development
• Holistic management of forests and fragile ecosystems
• Mountains, mangroves, deserts and drylands
• Watershed management, water harvesting and renewable energy
• Poverty eradication and sustainable livelihoods
• Community development and participatory interventions
• Gender equity and empowerment of disadvantaged groups
• Mainstreaming of traditional knowledge and benefit sharing
